Uh Oh. iPhone 5 "Scuffgate" Causes A Scandal

It is September 21st, 2012 and everybody is excited for the UPS delivery guy to knock on their doors with the brand spanking new iPhone 5. I'm not one to rain on people's parades but iFixit has released a rather worrisome video.

As nature decided a long time ago, aluminum is not one of the most scratch-resistant materials in the world; glass does a much better job in comparison. As you'll see in the video past the break, a two-year old girl was able to put some nasty dents and blemishes on the black anodized aluminum. If you haven't already, we advise you to take a look at Gadgetmac's recommended iPhone 5 cases to prevent your iPhone from looking like iFixit's.

iSkin Debuts First Aura Brushed Aluminum iPhone 4S Case

iSkin's first aluminum case isn't what we would call a true aluminum case, but it's close and looks fancy enough. iSkin's new Aura case for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S is a dock-friendly, back snap-on thin and slim case with a brushed aluminum back plate. The Aura case is also designed to virtually fit any 3rd party accessory and comes in Silver with a white band, Graphite with a black band and Navy with a black band for $39.99.

LunaTik Lynk Aluminum iPod Nano Watch Band Looks Too Good

The people who started it all, the same guys who brought us the brilliant iPod Nano conversion watch band kits made out of high quality materials and glamorous design have yet another fascinating watch band in the pipeline for the iPod Nano called the LunaTik Lynk. This is not your typical watch band accessory. The LunaTik Lynk might be the Omega of iPod Nano watch bands. It's made up from the original aluminum LunaTik permanent conversion kit designed for those who want to wear their Nanos as an everyday multi-touch iWatch, but the LunaTik Lynk replaces the silicone rubber wrist band with for an upgraded lightweight anodized aluminum band with a silicone underbelly for added comfort and a classy butterfly closure clasp.

The LunaTik Lynk will be available for the iPod Nano 6G and 7G in silver or black. You can pre-order yours now and expect your eye-catching Lynk to ship out on December 5 if you want to put those 16 new clock faces to good use at $129.95 for silver and $139.95 for black.

iPhone 5 Physical Mockup Is Beautiful

The alleged iPhone 5 is starting to take shape after case leaks suggested a redesigned body with iPad 2-like characteristics. Until now we've seen countless renders of how the iPhone 5 will supposedly look like, but now an actual physical mockup of an iPhone 5 was made based on recent case leaks and hardware components.

Based on CAD designs, hardware components, several leaked hints, cases and recent, believable mockups we created a three-dimensional computer model. This virtual model was then used to build a very detailed, true prototype that you can hold in your own two hands.

The process to create this prototype is the same that’s used to create the iPad. The back was machined from a sold block of aluminium, which was later treated with glass pearls to get the same slightly rough touch that we already know from the iPad.

iPhone 5 mockup on the right

We've seen exact physical mockups of the iPad 2 week before it was released that have proven to be on point thanks to various case leaks of the iPad 2. This iPhone 5 mockup could really be what Apple has up its sleeve for when it will announce the next new iPhone on October 4.

WD's Refreshed My Passport Portable Drive Series Get A Unibody Treatment

Western Digital, also known as WD, has revamped its My Passport and My Passport Studio external portable hard drives for Mac users to boast an ever sleeker, new sturdy all-metal slim enclosures. It's obvious WD is trying to target tech savvy students who are in love with Apple's aluminum fantasy world of quality products with its raw silver on black aluminum designed My Passport drive. The My Passport for Mac is available in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB storage capacities starting at $99, and is compatible with Apple Time Machine and includes WD Security for password protecting and hardware encryption.

The My Passport Studio on the other hand is targeted towards professionals needing faster transfer speeds, and for that the My Passport Studio has dual FireWire 800 ports which are the only thing setting the two drives apart, and of course the price. The My Passport Studio starts its price at $129. Both drives sport a USB port and are also USB powered. Sorry, no Thunderbolt capabilities quite yet. You may want to hold out for a bit longer for thunder speeds.

Case-Mate Teases With iPhone 5 Cases

We previously reported that Case-Mate had put up a notification page letting its customers know that it'll have iPhone 5 cases ready as soon as the iPhone 5 will be released. Case-Mate has recently released its renders for its iPhone 5 cases and how they will look like on the radically redesigned iPhone 5. Is Case-Mate really desperate for some free coverage or does it really have reliable inside information as to the specific design and dimensions of the iPhone 5? Investing time and money in designing these iPhone 5 cases sure does look like Case-Mate actually have concrete information. From these iPhone 5 renders, it looks like the back side is designed similarly to the iPad 2 using aluminum. Case-Mate has since removed its iPhone 5 cases page. Rumors point out to an early October release of the much anticipated iPhone 5.

i+Case Offers Sleek Aerodynamic Aluminum Curves For The iPhone 4

Granted we've seen just about every aluminum iPhone 4 case and bumper that was ever created, but we just have to point out this one called the i+Case. It's an aluminum bumper made for the iPhone 4 and with the typical drill of it being made out of a single piece of a solid block of aluminum using a CNC machine and the same process Apple uses to manufacture their unibody MacBook line of portables. There's no doubt that the i-Case doesn't look incredibly good with its sleek curves that with all the rumors circulating around, may even presumably make your iPhone 4 look like an iPhone 5. We can't help but notice how closely the i+Case resembles the ever so popular Japanese designed Draco, aka Deff Cleave aluminum bumper we've posted about a while back and even reviewed. The i+Case does have less specially designed curves we'll give it that, and it even has dedicated machined buttons too. It might not have the cool name, however it sure does look promising at $65. It's available for pre-order in black, red and silver colors.
