Some MacBook Airs Have Slower SSDs Than Others

With useful tools such as the free Disk Speed Test found in the Mac App Store, one could easily benchmark his or hers hard drive and SSD. As it turns out, Apple is still using two different models of SSDs in the MacBook Air from Samsung and Toshiba. It is reported that all Toshiba SSDs found in any 2010 and 2011 model, 11" and 13" MacBook Air, are slower than the Samsung SSDs Apple is using. Before your heart sinks to the bottom of your stomach, check to see which SSD model you've got inside your MacBook Air by going to your About This Mac - System Report or More Info under Snow Leopard - Serial ATA. If you see the Toshiba TS128C SSD model then you've got the slower SSD that's able to perform read and writes speeds generally below 200Mbps. If you're lucky, you'll find that you've got the faster Samsung SM128C SSD.

The difference in speeds may not necessarily mean that you will notice a significant difference in your day to day usage, but if it does bother you then you should try to get a replacement.

Quick Hands On With The 2010 iPod nano 6G

Iv'e had a quick hands on with the new 2010 iPod nano 6G and all I can say is that it's tiny! The multi-touch screen works flawlessly even if you've got large adult sized fingers. If you're used to Apple's multi-touch screens in the iPhone and iPod Touch, you will feel right at home with the new nano. It is a bit pricy at $149 for the 8GB model and $179 for the 16GB model considering you get a 1.54" display and you don't get the ability to have apps or take photos. You definitely have the option to geek out by transforming the new nano into an iWatch

Transform Your iPod Nano Into An iWatch

We all knew this would be the most popular thing to do with your new iPod nano when Steve Jobs said it could be worn as a wrist watch. If you didn't already know, you can set the lock screen as a watch on the new iPod nano and clip it onto a watch strap to have your very own geeky squared iWatch. All you need is a piece of watch strap like the one seen above for $17 or you can try eBay for cheaper options.

New Mac Minis To Be Updated Soon?

It looks like supplies of Apple's current Mac Minis are short on hand. AppleInsider reports that it has received numerous reports that suggest those shortages indicate new models to be released very soon. These reports are coming from various Apple resellers including large buyers from educational institutions that have had their recent bulk orders pushed back from an ETA of 1-3 business days all the way to June 14, which is a few days after Apple's WWDC 2010, where Steve Jobs will host the keynote. Rumors for the next refresh of Mac Minis are said to include an HDMI port that would replace the current DVI port, larger hard drives, faster Core 2 Due processors and updated graphics cards by Nvidia.
